| Cineric's many
years of optical printing experience means your blow-up is in the right hands. We use an
Oxberry computer-controlled printer with an additive light
source and a precision liquid gate to produce a timed 35mm
or 16mm
intermediate that preserves the full dynamic range of the
original element. In addition to 16mm and Super 16, we can do
blow-ups from 8mm and Super 8.
The
first step when doing a 16mm or Super 16 blow-up, prior to
making the 35mm blow-up interpositive, is to make a 16mm or
Super 16 answerprint. We
will carefully analyze your negative scene by scene. Then an
answer print is made in order to evaluate the scene to scene
timings. Upon review of the answerprint and an additional
round of timing corrections, we take the timing information
and use it to make the 35mm interpositive. Some laboratories
may take short-cuts that sacrifice the quality of a blow-up by
making "best-lite" interpositives, which will not faithfully
reproduce the original negative.
Once the
35mm interpositive is made, a 35mm internegative is made from
the 35mm interpositive. Answer prints are then made from the
35mm
internegative. These answer prints are typically used for
festival and market screenings. For distribution, one or more
one-lite 35mm internegatives are made for release printing.
Preparation
is particularly important when doing a Super 16 or 16mm
blow-up to 35mm. There are many options to choose along the
way from editing, negative cutting and through to the blow-up.
Please give us a call as early as possible in the process. We
would be happy to discuss the many options involved. We accept
Super 16 and 16mm original camera negatives as zero-cut A/B
rolls or single strand rolls. In either case, 10 frame handles
are ideal, however, as little as 6 frames is also acceptable.
